SPECIFIC PART ON UNICAL ROLE and WORK realized in the project

The role of UNICAL in the project has involved ex-situ characterization of the peel strength of adhesively bonded joints representative of the structure of the tanks. The characterization of the tearing strength of various adhesive types has been carried out, classifying the layered structures through their response recorded in floating roller peel tests. In addition, numerical modeling was developed in order to analyze the experimental results as well as to identify the main physical parameters that govern the mechanisms of failure, e.g. debonding at the composite\liner interface. Also, high-resolution CCD cameras and Optical and Scanning Electron Microscopes were employed to investigate the fracture surfaces and resolve the mechanisms of failure.
